Abstract
In Virtual Reality (VR), human pose estimation refers to the approximation of the location of body parts of a real human in a physical world. During the past decades, virtual reality has a widespread application in many areas such as the video game industry, user interfaces, and visual simulation. Hence the human pose estimation has recently attracted increasing attention in the VR community. However, it is challenging due to the variety of human movements. This paper discusses different methods for human motion estimation that have been investigated for years. We cover a variety of approaches, including motion capture techniques, inverse kinematics (IK), and the learning-based techniques that are the primary solutions to estimate the body joints in real-time in this scope.
