유치원 만 3세 학급에서 이루어지는 과학교육 현황 및 어려움에 대한 교사 인식

Abstract

본 연구는 유치원 만 3세 학급에서 이루어지는 과학교육 현황 및 어려움에 대한 교사인식을 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울과 경기도에 거주하는 만 3세반 교사 10명을 대상으로 개별 심층면담을 실시하여 자료를 수집하였다. 연구결과 유치원 만 3세반 교사들은 ‘과학 즐기기’와 ‘관찰을 중심으로 하는 과정기술 키우기’를 과학교육의 목적 및 목표로 인식하였으며, 과학교육 내용으로는 ‘생활 속 상황이나 물체를 활용한 과학 활동’과 ‘동식물을 주제로 한 과학 활동’을 주로 다루고 있었다. 또한 과학 교수-학습방법은 ‘교사주도의 과학교육’, ‘오감각 체험 중심의 과학교육’, ‘과학영역에 의존하는 과학교육’, ‘관찰중심의 과학교육’으로 나타났다. 만 3세를 위한 과학교육 평가는 평가실시여부에 따라 2그룹이 나뉘었으며, 실시한다는 그룹은 관찰법, 시간표집법, 포트폴리오의 방법으로 이루어지고 있었다. 그러나 두 그룹의 교사 모두가 기존 실행하고 있는 과학교육 평가방법이 만 3세 유아에게 약간의 부적절함을 느끼고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 만 3세 학급 교사가 인식하는 과학교육의 어려움은 첫째, 교사 자신의 효능감 부족, 둘째, 만 3세를 대상으로 한 과학교육의 가능성에 대한 확신부족 셋째, 만 3세 유아에게 적합한 교수전략부족 넷째, 만 3세 유아과학교육을 위한 참고자료 부족으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과들은 만 3세반 교사들이 유아들에게 과학의 탐구과정이 중요하다는 것을 인식하고 있음에도 불구하고, 실제 과학수업에서는 계획과 실행 모두에서 어려움을 겪고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 추후 연구에서는 이를 바탕으로 만 3세 유아의 발달 특성에 근거한 과학교육 활동 개발과 만 3세 학급에서 의미 있게 이루어지는 과학교육의 실례를 바탕으로 한 만 3세반 교사들을 위한 과학교육연수가 필요함을 제시하였다.

This study investigated the current situations of science education for 3 year olds and teachers’ perception of difficulties of science education. Ten teachers in charge of 3-year-old kindergarteners, living in Seoul and Gyung-gi province were interviewed. Results showed that the teachers perceived ‘enjoying science’ and ‘improving process-technique focusing on observation’ as aims for science education, and managed science activities using daily life situations, objects, and animals and plants for educational contents. ‘Teacher-led science education’, ‘science education focusing on experience with the five senses’, ‘high reliance on science area’ and ‘science education focusing on observation’ were applied to science teaching-learning method. Some teachers evaluated science education and some did not; teachers evaluating science education used observation, time sampling, and portfolio. However, the teachers evaluating science education reported inadequacy for evaluation method for 3 year olds. Teachers reported three difficulties of science education for 3 year olds. First, uncertainty of possibility of conducting science education for 3 year olds; second, uncertainty of planning for appropriate science education for 3 year olds, third, lack of references for science education for 3 year olds. Therefore, teachers had difficulties teaching science for 3- year-old children in terms of its planning and management, although teachers of 3-year-old class perceived importance of scientific exploration for 3 year olds. Further studies were needed to develop educational contents for 3-year-olds’ science education and examine necessity of training of science education for teachers based on a successful case of science education for 3-year-old class.
