Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of multimedia on listening comprehension and the attitude toward multimedia assisted language leaming. 46 undergraduate students who participated in the research were divided into two groups: multimedia vs. audio. The students in the multimedia group were further divided into high performance and low performance groups based on a pre-test result. The final results showed that there were no significant differences in the listening comprehension test scores between the audio and multimedia groups. At the end of the semester, questionnaires ranging in point from 1 to 5 were administrated to all the students in the multimedia group and analyzed. In general, students responded positively on the multimedia assisted language classes. The students in the low performance group gave a higher mark on the statement that the multimedia class helped them pace their progress while the high performance group gave a higher mark on the statement regarding the amount of workload in the class. They highly opinionated that the work-load was actually fewer than that of the audio controlled class.
