- Abstract
- The purpose of this paper is to clarify similarities and differences between Korean and Myanmar derivational adverbs. There are affixes, such as prefixes and suffixes that can form derived adverbs in Korean Language. In Myanmar language, there are prefixes, suffixes, infixes and circumfixes. The affix criteria applied in this paper were studied based on three criteria: strong dependence on affixes, lexicality, and productivity. Prefix-derived adverbs that can satisfy these three criteria do not exist in Korean, but exist in Myanmar. As a result of this study, it can be said that Korean language has some weak grammatical properties, particularly when affixes(prefixes, suffixes) are attached to adverb roots and can be derived from adverbs. In case of Myanmar language, affixes do not change the meaning of original verb but help to attain the quality of adverb. This study will be helpful not only for Myanmar learners learning Korean but also for Korean learners learning Myanmar language to understand the derivational method among word formation methods, to easily understand the word production process, and to entirely understand and use the derivative affixes correctly.
