- Abstract
- This study introduced new two methods to jacket concrete cylinders; the first one is steel jacketing without grouting and the other is the jacketing by shape memory alloy wires. Several compressive tests of plain and jacketed cylinders were conducted to improve the performance of the new methods. Also, the bending tests of four RC columns were conducted to improve the performance of the jacketing method on the structural level. The steel jackets on cylinders increased the strength and the ductility of the cylinders. However, the shape memory alloy wire jackets just increased their ductility. The new steel jacketing method significantly increased the displacement ductility of the columns with lap splice satisfactory.
