- Abstract
- Statistical analysis on the basis of the answers to a questionnaire as to the present situation in extraperitoneal pelvic drainage in radical surgery for cervix carcinoma from 65 hospitals in 14 countries is summarized. A drain of some sort in radical surgery for cervix carcinoma is used in 45 hospitals of the 65 (69.2%). Plastic and Penrose drain were used in a large proportion of the hospitals. The major purpose of extraperitoneal pelvic drainage is to avoid accumulation of fluid. The time of removal of the extraperitoneal pelvic drain is mostly the 2nd or 3rd postoperative day. A curved horn Y shaped Penrose cigaret drain is presented as a simple but efficient material for extraperitoneal drainage in radical surgery in cervix carcinoma.
