dc.description.abstract | This chapter focuses on the historical development of English learning motivation in Korea. In Chaps. 2, 3, and 4, the historical genesis of English learning motivation was investigated through the paths of significant historical events. Chapter 5 analyzes the progression of English education and the prime motive in China, Japan, and North Korea, respectively. Chapter 6 focuses on the recent advancement of English learning motivation in South Korea, including L2 motivation research influenced by activity theory, demotivation, teacher motivation, students’ competitive motivation, and the motivational languaging activity. Chapter 7 highlights five unique sociopsychological factors that created, maintained, and strengthened English learning motivation in (South) Korea. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. | - |
