- Abstract
- The purpose of this phenomenological case study is to describe how the religiosity emerges from the delusional thoughts of 24 psychiatric patients and to explore its meaning in their life. This suggests conceptual framework on religiosity through the literature reviews centered around Eliade, Otto, and Tillich. The suggested conceptual framework of this study consists of four Desires: Desire to become the center of the world, Desire to fulfil1 spiritual(or the greatest) power, Desire to be above himself/herself, and Desire to express himself/herself.Here, the data about the delusional thoughts of psychiatric patients is analyzed by the two desires, desire to become the center of the world and desire to fulfill spiritual(or the greatest) power because delusion are not behavior, but thought. desire to be above himself/herself and desire to express himself/herself are expressed by the behavior rather than thought itself in psychiatric patients' life.
The result of this study is that the religiosity of psychiatric patients is not different from that of the so called "Normal persons". So when taking care of the psychiatric patients, the nurse must consider psychiatric patients` delusions as not meaningless, but as meaningful. So the nurse can expand his or her understanding about Psychiatric patients` delusion regarding religiosity. Therefore this understanding will help the nurse to take good care of their patients.
