- Abstract
- We evaluated protective activity of the EtOAc fraction and active compounds, luteolin (LT) and luteoloside (LS), from Taraxacum coreanum NAKAI, one of the native plant in Korea, against nitric oxide (NO) and Aβ25–35. The LLC-PK1 renal epithelial cells showed declines in cell viability and increase in NO formation through oxidative stress induced by sodium nitroprusside (SNP). However, the treatment of the EtOAc fraction, LT and LS significantly increased cell viability and decreased NO formation. Furthermore, NO formation and lipid peroxidation were significantly elevated in the mouse injected with Aβ25–35, whereas the groups administered the EtOAc fraction of T. coreanum, inhibited dose-dependently lipid peroxidation and NO production in the brain, liver and kidney. These results indicated that the EtOAc fraction contains the bioactive compounds with protective effect against NO and Aβ25–35. In addition, LT and LS from T. coreanum are beneficial in preventing oxidative damage from free radical.
