Abstract
In Korea, beach erosion is mitigated through the Coastal Maintenance Plan. However, there is an on-going problem of erosion as artificial structures are constructed without the consideration of layout design. This is particularly evident in Bongpo Beach, Goseong, where the loss of sand is worsening owing to the development of the hinterland. This study aims to determine the initial shoreline before construction of a coastal structure in the target area and use the equilibrium shoreline prediction model, which is a fairly useful means of reviewing coastline deformation after construction of the coastal structure, to estimate the initial shoreline after construction of the coastal structure. The results of the field observations of Yate et al. (2009) and 30-year frequency erosion threshold with the equilibrium section equation of Dean (1977) were applied. Through this, we could examine the erosion and sediment tendency for each section and predict the possibility of damaging coastal roads, residential facilities, and coastal forests.
