Abstract
Facial nerve paralysis is a disease caused by dysfunction of the seventh cranial nerve. It can be caused by numerous conditions, but in most cases there is no specific identifiable cause of facial nerve paralysis and symptoms improve without treatment. Moreover, when we encounter patients with both upper and lower facial paralysis, clinicians usually suspect peripheral type facial nerve paralysis. But, Facial nerve paralysis caused by a lesion of an intracranial or perifacial nerve nucleus may have accompanying neurological symptoms. In such cases, lack of early diagnosis and treatment could lead to permanent neurological damage or result in life threatening situations. We report a case of cavernous hemangioma with acute hemorrhage in a 1-month-old infant who came to our outpatient clinic presenting with left side facial paralysis.
