제6회 세계청소년축구선수권대회(1991) 코리아 단일팀 참가에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구에서는 제6회 세계청소년축구선수권대회 코리아 단일팀 참가에 관하여 살펴보았다. 남과 북은 통일축구대회 개최를 계기로 이루어진 남북체육회담을 통하여 단일팀을 구성하여 참가하기로 합의하였다. 남과 북은 서울과 평양에서의 평가전을 거쳐 18명의 선수를 선발하였고, 평양과 서울에서 합동훈련을 실시하였다. 62명으로 구성된 선수단은 서울에서 결단식을 갖고 포르투갈로 출발하였다. 코리아 단일팀은 포르투갈에서의 전지훈련과 평가전을 통하여 전력을 최종 점검하였고, 대회에 참가하였다. 코리아 단일팀은 객관적인 전력 부족에도 불구하고 1승 1무 1패의 성적으로 세계 8강 진입에 성공하였다. 코리아 단일팀의 참가는 한반도 평화 분위기 조성, 한민족의 저력과 자긍심 발휘 등 긍정적인 성과를 올렸다. 그러나 단일팀 구성 과정 속에서의 북한 측에 대한 일방적인 양보, 선수단 임원 선출과정에서의 분규, 과다 비용지출 등의 문제점을 일으키면서 금후 이루어질 남북체육교류에 시사점을 제공하기도 했다.

This study investigated participation of Korean single team in the 6th FIFA World Youth Championship. Taking the opportunity of opening a reunification football game, South and North Korea agreed to organize a single team to participate in the Championship through an athletic meeting. South and North Korea selected 18 players through a warm-up match in Seoul and Pyongyang and had a joint training in Pyongyang and Seoul. The team composed of 62 people had an inaugural meeting in Seoul and departed for Portugal. Korean single team had a final check on their power through field training and warm-up matches in Portugal and participated in the Championship. In spite of lack in objective power, Korean single team successfully advanced to the quarterfinals with a result of a win, a loss, and a tie. Participation of Korean single team made such positive achievements as creation of a peaceful atmosphere in Korean Peninsula, exercise of potential and pride of Korean people. However, it gave an implication to South-North athletic exchange to be made in the future due to problems of South Korea's one-sided concession to North Korea regarding composition of the single team, selection of officers for the team, and excessive expenditures.
