학교문화가 학생들의 학교폭력 대응행동에 미치는 영향 분석

Abstract

본 연구는 학교폭력의 보다 근본적 예방과 대처를 위해서는 피해자와 가해자 중심적 접근에서 벗어나 이를 방관하거나 동조하는 대다수 학생의 대응행동에 좀 더 주목할 필요가 있다는 문제인식에서 학교문화가 학생들의 학교폭력 대응행동에 미치는 영향을 분석할 목적으로 수행되었다. 학생들의 학교문화와 학교폭력 대응행동에 대한 인식과 배경변인별 차이, 두 변수 간의 영향 관계를 분석하기 위하여 전국 586개 초·중등학교의 학생 5,536명의 온라인 설문조사 응답 자료에 대하여 기술통계, t검증, 분산분석, 위계적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 학생들은 학교문화에 대해서 자신들의 생활태도를 제외하고는 상당히 긍정적으로 인식하고 있었다. 그러나 이러한 인식은 학교급과 학년이 올라감에 따라 그 긍정 정도가 조금씩 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 학교폭력을 목격한 학생들의 대응행동을 보면, 학교폭력을 멈추기 위해 피해학생을 돕고 노력하는 학생은 절반 정도에 그쳤으며, 나머지 학생들은 공감만 하거나 외면하고 심지어 구경하고 함께 괴롭히는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 남학생, 초등학교 6학년생, 중학교 2학년생의 부정적 대응행동 경향이 상대적으로 높았다. 셋째, 학생들의 학교폭력 대응행동은 학교의 문화에 의해 영향을 받는 것으로 밝혀다. 이러한 연구 결과를 토대로 학생들의 학교폭력 대응행동에 영향을 미치는 주요 변수가 학교문화임을 확인하고 학교문화 개선, 학생 집단별 맞춤형 프로그램 등 학교폭력 예방과 대책의 접근 관점 개선을 위한 정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.

This study seeks to analyze the effects of school culture on the students’coping response toward school violence. For this purpose, we investigated the students’ perception on of school culture and students’ coping response toward school violence, differences depending on the background variables, and the relationship between school culture and students’coping response toward school violence. The on-line survey data of 5,536 students in 586 elementary and secondary schools were analyzed via descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and hierarchical regression analysis. The data analysis shows that Korean students are relatively positive about the school culture. However, the level of their perception tends to decrease as the school level and grade go up. Second, only one half of the students among those who come across school violence try to help victims to stop school violence. Especially, such groups as male students, elementary school six graders and middle school second graders appear to respond negatively. Finally, there is a statistically significant relationship between school culture and the students’coping response toward school violence. Based on the findings, we discussed the importance of school culture in preventing school violence, and draw a few policy implications including group-specific customized programs.
