The purpose of this study was to investigate the acquisition of basic color terms by young children in Korea. For the study, both receptive and productive vocabulary knowledge tests were administered to a total of 459 children aged 2 to 5 (female, n = 237; male, n = 221). The results showed that the number of color terms used by young children increases with age and that the acquisition of classifiers advances significantly at the ages of 3 and 5. Among the 15 target color terms, black, red, and yellow were acquired at the earliest stages. In addition, there were significant gender differences in both productive and receptive vocabulary test scores. Overall, the results indicated that girls develop color terms faster than boys.-
