Abstract
RFID and wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are emerging technologies to complement each other. However, there are several problems to be solved in order to get proliferation of their use. One of them is to eliminate the redundant data generated by nodes due to the overlapped reading range. Elimination of the redundant data is of importance because it saves the power consumption by avoiding the unnecessary redundant data transmission in the integrated RFID and WSNs. In this paper, we propose a cluster head aggregation scheme called 2PA (2-Phase Aggregation) for reducing redundant data transmission in a cluster-based model of integrated RFID and WSNs.2PA can contribute to reduction of energy consumption because redundant data can be detected in advance before it traverses cluster heads(CHs) along the routing path. This implies that introducing 2PA can obtain the additional benefit of avoiding the unnecessary computation for duplicate detection of redundant readings for a RFID tag at each CH. © Research India Publications.
