『新撰朝鮮會話』의 日本語와 韓國語

Abstract

본 논문은 1894년 8월에 일본에서 간행된 Shinsen Chosengokaiwa(新撰朝鮮語會話)의 내용과 제작 배경을 살펴봄과 동시에 한일 양언어의 연구 자료로서 본서가 가지고 있는 가치를 생각해 보고자 한 것이다. 본서는 명치기(Meiji period) 일본에서 간행된 한국어 학습서 가운데 최초로 한국인에 의해 제작된 학습서로서 저자인 Seokhyeon Hong(洪奭鉉)은 Waseda University(早稲田大学)의 전신인 Tokyo Senmon Gakko(東京専門学校)를 한국인 최초로 1897년에 졸업했으며 한국에 돌아온 후 1907년에 Hansung National Highscool(官立漢城高等學校) 교장에 취임한 인물로 알려져 있다. 조사의 결과, 본서의 일본어에는 동사의 활용형, 경어표현, 가능표현 등에서 근대일본어의 과도기적인 언어현상이 반영되어 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 아울러 본서의 한국어에 나타나는 근대어의 음운사와 어휘사 연구에 활용할 수 있는 현상들이 확인되었다.

The purpose of this paper is to observe the contents and background of the book “Shinsen Chosengokaiwa(新撰朝鮮語會話),” which was published in Japan in August 1894, and to consider the value of the book as a research material in terms of the Korean and Japanese languages. This book is the first study material produced by a Korean among the Korean language study materials that were published in Japan during the Meiji period. The author of the book, Seokhyeon Hong(洪奭鉉), is known to have graduated from the Tokyo Senmon Gakko(東京專門學校), former Waseda University, in 1897. And after returning to Korea, he was appointed as the principal of Hansung National High School(官立漢城高等學校) in 1907. According to the study, the book confirmed that the transitional phenomenon of the modern Japanese such as conjugation, honorific expression, and possibility verb were applied to the Japanese language in the book. In addition, phenomenon that can be utilized in the research of modern language’s historical phonology and lexical history in the Korean language of the book was confirmed. 本稿は、1894年、日本で刊行された韓国語学習書『新撰朝鮮会話』の製作背景とその内容を調査・分析し、言語史の立場から本書の持つ意味を考えてみようとしたものである。 本書は、明治期の日本で刊行された韓国語学習書の中で韓国人の手によって作成された最初の学習書であり、著者である洪奭鉉は、1897年に東京専門学校(早稲田大学の全身)を韓国人としては初めて卒業し、韓国に帰国してからは、1907年、官立漢城高等學校の校長に就任した人物として知られている。 調査の結果、本書の日本語には、二段動詞の一段化、ハ行五段動詞の連用形、接続助詞「ので」の使用などで、同時期の他の韓国語学習書よりは19世紀末の東京語の現実を積極的に反映していることを確認することができた。また、本書に収録されている韓国語は、韓国語の音韻史や語彙史的な側面から貴重な資料的情報を提供し得るものであることが確認できた。 このような特徴を持つ『新撰朝鮮会話』は、韓国と日本の言語史的な立場から今後様々な問題を提起し得る資料として活用出来るものと思われる。
