Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide horseback riding participants with a useful coaching guide by analyzing the mediating effect of Leader-Member Exchange Theory (LMX) in the relationship between a leader’s nonverbal communication skills and the achievement goals perceived by hobby riders. Method: Multiple regression analysis was conducted to verify the research hypothesis, and a structural equation model (SEM) was performed to test the mediating effect of LMX. Results: First, the influence of the leader’s non-verbal communication on the participant’s achievement goals was partially confirmed. Second, the impact of the leader’s non-verbal communication on LMX was fully or partially supported as a factor. All elements of non-verbal communication had a positive (+) significant effect on affect and professional respect within the LMX relationship. Body language, proximity, and visual cues had a significantly positive (+) effect on LMX’s loyalty and contribution. Third, the effect of LMX on participants’ achievement goals was partially validate. Conclusion: Based on the verification of the mediating effect of LMX through the structural equation presented in the above hypothesis, it is found to play a complete mediating role.
