- Abstract
- Nanotechnology has emerged as the finest technology beneficial in various fields of science. Green nanoparticle synthesis using marine sources has earned the researcher’s attention due to its spectrum of biomedical applications. Oceans are the most extensive ecosystem and are reflected as a hotspot for biodiversity. Using marine organisms as a nanoparticle synthesis source facilitates less energy and time consumption and protects the environment with benign products and byproducts. Thus, diverse marine species deliver eco-friendly, inexpensive, and efficient nanoparticles. This chapter discusses the different marine sources for nanoparticle synthesis, including seagrass, cyanobacteria, algae, yeast, marine bacteria, fungi, and marine animals. Silver, gold, copper, zinc, and cadmium nanoparticles were synthesized using marine organisms. In addition, the synthesis mechanism and their role as antioxidant, antitumor, antidiabetic, and antibacterial agents have also been discussed. Biosynthesized nanoparticles using marine organisms have great potential in pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical applications. © 2024 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
