근대 교회건축의 입지환경 - 약현, 명동, 감곡, 중동성당을 중심으로 -

Abstract

본 연구는 우리나라 최초의 근대식 교회건축물인 약현성당, 명동성당, 감곡성당, 중동성당의 입지환경에대한 풍수 고찰을 통해 그 의미를 밝혀보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 또한 풍수의 궁극적 목적과 여러 종교가 추구하는 바가 일치한다는 사실도 문헌고찰과 현장조사를 통해 확인하고자 한다. 서양 선교사들의주도로 세워진 근대 교회건축은 동양의 명당에 해당하는 입지를 선택하고 있다. 그리고 서양의 고딕건축 양식은 기독교 사상을 표현하고 있으며, 건물과 공간배치는 시민들에게 선교하기 유리한 방위를 선택하고 있다. 혈처에 신성한 예배공간을 배치하여 절대자에게 가까이 다가감으로써 인간이 추구하고자하는 이상을 실현하고자 했다. 따라서 종교는 달라도 입지를 선정하고 활용하는 방법에 차이가 없으며, 신성한 종교의식을 행하는데 보다 유리한 조건을 선택하고자 하였다.

The purpose of this study is to reveal the meaning of Yakhyeon Cathedral, Myeongdong Cathedral, Gamgok Cathedral, and Jungdong Cathedral, the first modern church buildings in Korea, through a Feng Shui study on the location environment. In addition, I would like to confirm the consistency between ultimate purpose of Feng Shui and pursue of various religions through literature review and field research. The locations of modern church architectures, which are built under the leadership of Western missionaries, are taking up famous sites of the East. Also, the Western Gothic architectural style expresses Christian ideas, and the buildings and spatial arrangement is favorable for doing missionary work to citizens. By arranging a sacred worship space at the power converged site, missionaries sought to realize the ideal by getting closer to the Absolute. Therefore, even though the religions are different, there is no difference in the method of selecting and utilizing the location, and the intention select more favorable conditions for performing sacred religious ceremonies.
