Conductive particles which occurred during production, assembly and operation of electric power facilities could be attached to the interface of dielectrics and they reduce dielectric strength of electric power equipment significantly. In order to improve a tolerance toward conductive particle, rib at the surface of the insulator was considered. Particle-initiated surface flashover characteristics of ribbed profile in SF6 gas with AC voltge was investigated. Specimens were made of Acrylon Butadiene Styrene (ABS) with twelve different kinds of surface profile. From the tests, it was found that surface flashover performance could be improved by adopting proper shape of ribs. Key-
