Performance Evaluation of Ad hoc Networks with Prioritized Messages

Abstract

In mobile ad-hoc networks(MANETs), nodes are mobile and a frequent change in the network structure is inevitable which affects the system performance significantly. There has been considerable attention on the mobility models, however, most work is confined to the simulation or test-bed. In this paper, we apply a backoff algorithm that considers the priority of messages, and derive the probability distribution of a message delay and the dwell time of each node. Then we obtain the system performances such as the link holding time and transmission failure probability in an analytical way.
