학습·창작 공간 활성화를 위한 홍익대학교 홍문관 7층 교육 환경 개선안 연구

Abstract

(연구배경 및 목적) 현대 교육 환경에서 공간의 구성과 디자인은 학습자의 창의력, 상호작용 및 집중력 향상에 매우 중요한 역할을 하며, 이는 궁극적으로 학습의 효과를 극대화한다. 특히, 디자인 교육과 같이 창의적 사고와 협업이 강조되는 분야에서는교육 공간의 구성이 더욱 중요한 요소로 작용한다. 홍익대학교 시각디자인과의 기존 교육 공간인 홍문관 7층은 학생들 사이의소통과 아이디어의 자유로운 교환을 제한하는 폐쇄적이고 분리된 구조를 지니고 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 세계 유수의 디자인 학교에서 적용되고 있는 공간 디자인 사례를 벤치마킹하여, 홍익대학교 홍문관 7층의 교육 환경을 개선하고 학생들의 창의적 성과를 극대화할 수 있는 방향을 제시하는 것을 목표로 한다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 홍익대학교 시각디자인과 공간 재정비 사업을 위해 제안된 기획설계를 범위로 한다. 디자인 연구는 다음 순서로 진행되었다. 첫 번째로, 학생들의 창의력을 향상시킬 수 있는 교육 공간 구성에 대한 선행 연구를 검토하였다. 두 번째로, 하버드 GSD, 쿠퍼 유니온 등 해외 유명 디자인 학교의 공간 활용 사례를 분석하여, 창의적 교육에 필수적인 공간 요소들을 도출하였다. 세 번째로, 홍익대학교 홍문관 7층의 현재 공간 사용 현황을 조사하여 개선이 필요한 요소들을 식별하였고, 이러한 분석 결과를 바탕으로 창의성이 강조되는 시각디자인과 교육에 적합한 공간디자인 개선안을 구체적으로 제안하였다. (결과) 본 연구를 통해 도출된 주요 개선안은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존의 폐쇄적인 강의실 배치를 탈피하고 유연성을 갖춘 복도를 중심으로 공간을 재구성하여, 다양한 학습 활동과 창의적 실험이 가능하도록 하였다. 둘째, 천장 공간과 벽면을 활용하여 설치미술, 프로젝션 매핑 및 기타 다양한 시각적 실험을 지원할 수 있는 인프라를 구축하였다. 셋째, 개방형 학습 공간을 확대하여 학생들 간의 소통과 협업을 촉진하고, 자유롭게 아이디어를 공유하고 토론할 수 있는 환경을 조성하였다. 이러한 개선안들은 학생들의 창의적 아이디어를 자극하고, 교류를 촉진하여 교육의 질을 높이는 데 기여할 것으로 예상된다. (결론) 본 연구를 통해 제안된 디자인 개선안들은 디자인 교육 공간인 홍익대학교 홍문관 7층의 교육 환경을 혁신적으로 변화시킬 수 있는 가능성을 제시하였다. 이러한 공간 디자인의 개선은 학생들의 창의력과 협업 능력을 높이는 데 중요한 역할을 할 것이며, 앞으로의 디자인 교육 공간 계획에 있어서 중요한 참고 자료가 될 것이다. 또한, 이 연구는 향후 디자인 학과의 공간 개선을 위한 기초 자료로 활용될 수 있으며, 학습 및 창작 공간 활성화가 필요한 국내외 다른 교육 기관의 공간 개선프로젝트에도 영감을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

(Background and Purpose) In the modern educational landscape, the configuration and design of space play crucial roles in enhancing learners' creativity, interaction, and concentration, ultimately maximizing learning effectiveness. Particularly in fields like design education that emphasize creative thinking and collaboration, the configuration of educational spaces becomes increasingly critical. The existing educational spaces at Hongik University's Department of Visual Communication Design on the 7th floor of Hongmungwan have a closed and segregated structure that limits communication and the free exchange of ideas among students. This study aims to benchmark spatial design practices from world-renowned design schools to propose improvements for the environment on the 7th floor of Hongmungwan at Hongik University that would maximize students' creative outputs. (Method) This study is based on a proposed planning design for the spatial reorganization project at Hongik University's Department of Visual Communication Design. The design research method included: Firstly, prior research on educational space configurations that can enhance students' creativity was reviewed. Secondly, the use of space at renowned international design schools such as Harvard GSD and Cooper Union was analyzed to identify the essential spatial elements necessary for creative education. Thirdly, the current use of space on the 7th floor of Hongmungwan at Hongik University was surveyed to identify elements that require improvement, and based on these analyses, specific spatial design improvements suitable for enhancing creativity in visual design education were proposed. (Results) The main improvement proposals derived from this study are as follows: First, reconfiguring the space around a flexible corridor, moving away from the fixed classroom setup to enable various learning activities and creative experiments. Second, utilizing ceiling spaces and walls to build infrastructure that supports installation art, projection mapping, and other visual experiments. Third, expanding open learning spaces to enhance communication and collaboration among students, creating an environment where ideas can be freely shared and discussed. These improvements are expected to stimulate students' creative ideas and foster interactions, thus enhancing the quality of education. (Conclusions) The design improvements proposed through this research demonstrate the potential for innovative transformations in the educational environment of Hongik University's Hongmungwan 7th floor, specifically designed for design education spaces. These spatial design enhancements will play a crucial role in boosting students' creativity and collaborative skills, serving as important references for future planning of design education spaces. Additionally, this research can serve as foundational material for space improvement initiatives in design departments and inspire similar projects aimed at revitalizing learning and creative spaces at other educational institutions both domestically and internationally.
