- Abstract
- The corrosion of structural steel is the big challenge to the engineers, researchers and scientist. Therefore, different coating systems
being used to reduce the corrosion or delay the onset of corrosion phenomena. In the presence studies, a 100 µm Zn coating was deposited by arc
thermal spray process on the steel substrate. However, Zn is amphoteric in nature, thus, it initiates the corrosion reaction early, therefore, a 40 µm thin
epoxy as top/upper layer on the 100 µm Zn coating was applied by brush to act as barrier and provide another fold of protection. It is observed that
during 1 day of exposure in 3.5 wt.% NaCl contaminated concrete pore solution, the corrosion resistance of Epoxy/Zn coating is increased by around
60,000 times compared to Zn coating. Both coatings i.e. Zn and Epoxy/Zn coating exhibited decrease in resistance with exposure periods but still
Epoxy/Zn coating exhibits around 50,000 times higher corrosion resistance after 51 days of exposure.
