Abstract
Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations provide a viable solution for remote real-time data gathering, enabling timely updates through dynamic inter-satellite links. Given the high latency inherent in satellite communication, enhancing the success probability of packet transmission is crucial. In this paper, we propose a novel adaptive frame-based slot allocation (AFSA) scheme that dynamically allocates slots to device groups with varying priority levels. The AFSA scheme adjusts slot allocation based on priority requirements for maximum throughput and actual network traffic conditions, ensuring optimal resource utilization. Through comprehensive simulations, we demonstrate that the AFSA scheme effectively meets the priority needs of different device groups while maintaining overall system performance and reducing delays for various priority devices. Additionally, the AFSA scheme adapts well to varying traffic conditions, ensuring robust performance across diverse network scenarios, making it highly suitable for LEO satellite IoT applications. © 2024 IEEE.
