This study aimed to assess the vulnerability of transportation networks and identify critical nodes and regions within a multimodal transportation system. While previous research has predominantly focused on centrality measures to evaluate node importance from an accessibility perspective, this study emphasizes the need to evaluate network vulnerability comprehensively in response to rapid socioeconomic changes. We propose a vulnerability function that integrates network topology and connectivity. First, we defined the vulnerability of individual nodes and regional clusters. Second, we developed a methodology to evaluate the defined vulnerabilities systematically. Finally, we applied the framework to Korea’s multimodal transportation network, conducting a case study to validate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed function. Conclusively, this study presents a comprehensive vulnerability assessment framework for multimodal transportation networks, offering valuable insights to support robust decision making for enhancing sustainable and efficient transportation systems. © 2025 by the authors.-
