Abstract
Strain controlled fatigue test of widely used 316L stainless steel because of Excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties was carried out to assess the fatigue damage and the effect of mean stress. Low cycle fatigue test was performed using various conditions such as strain amplitude and strain ratio at ambient temperature. material was hardened during initial few cycles after that material was soften during long period since failure occurred. fatigue life was found to decrease with increasing strain amplitude. material showed Masing behavior under the low strain amplitude but high strain amplitude from the result of stable state’s hysteresis loop. low cycle fatigue life prediction based on the cyclic plastic energy dissipation theory showed good correlation with experiment result.
