- Abstract
- The occurrence of the stick-slip motion in a self-excited oscillator is studied in this paper. The stick-slip motion disappears when the viscous damping dissipates the friction induced energy. Based on the principle of work and energy, a criterion equation of the stick-slip occurrence is derived. A closed-form solution of the criterion equation is obtained by linearizing the friction force. The obtained solution presents satisfactory agreement with a numerical solution.
