- Abstract
- The present study describes a test rig to measure static and dynamic forced performances of air-lubricated journal bearings. The test rig, consisted of a steel rotor (142 mm length and 28.8 mm diameter) with an impulse turbine, two bearing sleeves, two labyrinth seals, two thrust pins, enables to demonstrate rotordynamic performance and static and dynamic characteristics of the test bearings up to 100 krpm. The test rig includes four eddy current type displacement sensors to measure rotor dynamic behavior, a tachometer to measure rotating speed, and eight thermocouples to estimate thermal distribution of the test system. Through coast-down tests and imbalance response tests, the current test rig allows to measure static and dynamic forced parameters of the test bearings such as, drag torque, power loss, lift-off speed, touch-down speed and stiffness/damping coefficients.
