Abstract
This article examined the context of social background on a London bid for the 2012 Olympics and a social and sentimental implication on the bid and hosting for the Olympic Games reflected from the public and media in terms of the host country ‘the United Kingdom’. The paper identified social and sentimental implications on the bid and hosting for the Games which the public, media and government created in terms of a three-stage process of context. First, while the UK inspired the imagination of the public to host the 2012 Olympics in London, the government’s aspiration to host the Games was tied to urban redevelopment policy and project in the East End of London. Second, another social and sentimental implication in terms of the process of London bid and hosting is that London’s bid success for the Games directly after the IOC’s final decision to grant the 2012 Olympics to London was referred as‘a great victory’by British media. Third, the government and media’s response to the successful hosting of the 2012 London Olympics was that the Games in terms of its national team’s performance, security·safety, gender equality and racial diversity was successful in embodying the values of the Olympics.
