Abstract
This paper proposes a novel 2-Phase dual stator permanent magnet machine (DSPMM) adopting specific combination of stator slots and magnet poles for improving torque density. The proposed machine contains two stators with the same slot/teeth construction but arranged to be shifted by one stator tooth width for concentrating flux in one airgap. Phase-group concentrated-coil windings are utilized and the rotor is structured by inserting spoke-type NdFeB permanent magnets. The effectiveness of the proposed machine design is verified by comparing to a conventional 2-Phase dual stator permanent magnet machine design with normal combination of stator slots and magnet poles based on 2-D finite element method (FEM).
