통일신라시대의 금속 법구에 관한 연구 - 범종과 사리장엄구 중심으로 -

Abstract

통일신라의 금속장식품은 삼국의 공예 기술이 더해져 비약적인 발전을 하였다. 특히, 불교를 중심으로 하는 금속 법구가 급증하였다. 정숙한 기형과 유려한 문양을 지닌 사리장엄구와 섬세한 세부장식을 정교한 주조로 표현한 범종은 현대에 이르기까지 한국의 대표적 걸작으로 남겨져있다. 그리하여 범종과 사리장엄구를 중심으로 통일신라시대의 금속 법구를 연구하고자 한다. 범종은 종의 전체적인 형태와 용뉴, 유두, 비천상을 중심으로 연구하였다. 초기에 2/3지점에 배가 불러 있는 이상적인 형태를 지닌다. 역동적인 용뉴의 모습을 지니며 돌출형 유두와 화려한 비천상을 특징으로 한다. 중기에 납작한 유두의 형태를 거쳐 후기에 단순화되면서 종의 외형이 흐트러지고 조잡한 용뉴의 모습과 비천상의 선각표현, 살짝 돌출된 유두로 변화하게 된다. 밀랍주물법과 조각, 부조, 선각, 조금 기법 등을 사용한 범종은 현대에 와서도 완벽한 복제가 불가능하여 그 가치가 더욱 높다. 통일신라의 사리장엄구는 기단을 중심으로 변화하였으며 초기에는 누각형, 중기에 사각당형, 후기에 육각형과 팔각당형으로 변모하였다. 보상화문, 귀면상, 당초문, 화불 문양을 조각, 주물, 누금세공, 투각, 리벳, 영락장식 등의 기법을 통해 보여주고 있다. 통일신라의 금속 법구는 삼국의 기술을 기반으로 불교와 새로운 정치적 이념의 일치로 독창적인 양식으로 발전하였다. 여러 가지 요인에 의해 쇠퇴하였으나 세밀하고 정교한 통일신라 금속 법구의 가치는 더욱 중요하다고 사료된다.

Metallic accessories of Unified Silla Period have undergone drastic development with the assistance of craft skills from Goguryeo and Baekje. Beopgus that are based on Buddhism had rapidly increased. Sarijangeomgu that has virtuous deformity and elegant pattern and Beomjong which expressed detailing in accurate casting are Korea’s representative masterpiece throughout the modern era. Therefore, we want to study metal Beopgu of Unified Silla Perioed based on Beomjong and Sarijangeomgu. We have conducted study on Beomjong based on its general form, Yongnew, Youdoo, and Bicheonsang. It has ideal shape which is bulge at the point which is 2/3 from the beginning. It has a shape of dynamic Yongnew, Youdoo that is sticking out, and splendid Bicheonsang. Along flattened youdoo at mid period and simplfied at late period, the external shape of bells transformed into complex yongnew, line of bicheonsang, and slightly protruding youdoo. The beomjong that used resin condensation and other sculpture techniques is impossible to be fully replicated even until now. Unified Shilla"s sarijangeomgu changed around the basic platform. In early period it was a tower, square during mid term, and hexagonal or octagonal at late period. Bosanghwamun, gwimyunsang, dangchomun, and hwabul patterns are expressed using casting, bratticing, rivet, ornament, and other techniques. Unified Shilla’s metallic beopgu was based on the Three Nations’ technology and developed into a unique form by the convergence of Buddhism and new political ideals. Though it faded due to several reasons, the value of the delicate Unified Shilla metallic beopgu is more than important.
