Control of Drug Release of Terazosin Loaded PDLLA

Abstract

Drug delivery systems(DDS) are a drug form which is minimizing of side effects and maximizing of virtues in previous drug. In order to avoid frequent administration of medication, the duration of drug release needs to be extened. It can be achieved by incorporation of drug in polymeric matrix. A biodegradable polymer was used to the polumeric matrix because it dose not require removal in the body after complete drug release. There are many biodegradable polymers including poly(amides), poly(amino acids), poly(ester) and poly(urethanes) but the thermoplastic aliphatic poly(esters) such as PLA, PGA and PLGA have been used most frequently due to their excellent biocompatibility and biodegradability. In this study, The polymer matrix used was the PDLLA and the drug was the terazosin hydrochloride, a medicine for prostatic hyperplasia. We propared drug loaded biodegradable polymer for DDS application by varying factors such as the kind of the particle size and drug content. Drug incorporated biodegradable polymers were prepared using the ultrasonic spray drying method which is a continuous and manageable process. The prepared particle were spherical and up to several micrometers. The properties of drug loaded polymer microspheres were characterized by SEM and FT-IR. And the drug release was observed by HPLC.
