- Abstract
- Since 2005, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism under Korean government selected Hangul (Korean alphabet), Hansik(Korean cusine), Hanok(Korean traditional housing), Hanbok(Korean traditional clothing), Hanji (Korean traditional handmade paper), and Koran music as the fields that are on one hand the core of Korean traditional culture and on the other hand in need of government support, in order to create jobs and added value as well as to enhance Korea's brand image through popularization, commercialization, and globalization of traditional culture contents. Moreover, the purpose of Hanstyle image was to give competitive advantage to the Korea's brand in the global market, representing Korean culture. This was to utilize culture as the differentiation factor for the country's identity, as such is being used as one of brand marketing strategies used by world's many other countries and cities. Hanstyle image is reflected in various areas, and this research focuses on how Hanstyle is applied in textile. It is expected that Hanstyle is to contribute to the creation of added value and jobs through commercialization of the core Korean traditional culture that would appeal to the global market, as well as to attract interest and expand the base of traditional culture to help continuously spreading the Korean Wave, which currently is mainly about pop culture.
