Abstract
This study describes the sheltering effect of a wave resonator for incoming short-period waves, which is attached to the entrance of the rectangular model harbor in conjunction with the existing breakwater through numerical and experimental analysis. We discussed both linear and non-linear numerical analysis of the proposed resonator, taking into account the wave deformation. In linear analysis, the vertical line source Green's function method assuming irrotational flows was used, while the three-dimensional direct numerical model based on the solver of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations was adopted in non-linear analysis. Furthermore, in order to investigate the applicability of the proposed resonator and to validate the numerical analysis, laboratory experiments were carried out in a three dimensional wave basin. The comparisons between numerical and experimental results reveal that the non-linear analysis is more suitable to describe the interactions between the resonator and waves. In addition, it was confirmed that the proposed wave resonator is very effective to control the short-period waves and its performance greatly depends on the wave period.
