The Validation of Demand-Effort Model

Abstract

The aim of this study is to validate the Demand-Effort Model (Kim et al., 2002). Eleven subjects participated in the driving experiment, and their psycho-physiological data were collected, analyzed, and diagnosed. The Demand-Effort model was used to estimate the ‘Match’ ratio representing driver’s proper effort responding to the road demand. The Match ratio acquired from Youngdong Highway, where the original data were collected, was about 55%. The result of cross-validation that was conducted at different road environment showed about 60% of Match ratio. The diagnostic sensitivity can be bettered if various information determining the mental ‘Demand’ of the road are augmented on the model as well as the refinement of the parameters currently used in the model.
