We examine the performance of the electroabsorption (EA) mixer at high optical power. It is shown that the EA mixer can theoretically achieve an external conversion loss of similar to 0 dB for waveguides that can handle very high optical power. The analysis is consistent with data deduced from prior experiments. (C) 2012 The Japan Society of Applied Physics-
