역사 드라마 <뿌리깊은 나무>의 미학적 요소 분석

Abstract

한국 TV 드라마에 다양한 장르 혼합이 일어나면서 그 미학적 표현 양식에도 큰변화가 나타나고 있다. 이 연구는 이러한 변화의 정점에 있는 퓨전 사극인 <뿌리깊은 나무>(SBS)의 미학적 특성에 주목한다. 분석은 전체 24개 에피소드를 대상으로주요 미학적 요소인 1) 내러티브 구성(플롯), 2) 시각적 스타일, 3) 캐릭터화, 4) 대본과 대사, 5) 혁신성(innovation)을 중심으로 이뤄졌다. 분석 결과 <뿌리깊은 나무>는 한국 퓨전 사극의 미학적 변화의 연장선상에서 다양한 외국 드라마의 미학적 요소와 작가주의적 독특성을 가미하면서 미학적 혁신을 시도하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 이것을 정서적 차원의 감정주의적 리얼리즘과 영상적 차원의 경험주의적리얼리즘을 통해 한국 사회 현실을 표현해낸 새로운 미학적 감성(sensibility)으로 설명하였다.

Korean historical drama has undergone the process of genre-blending in terms of various aesthetic expressions. This study aims to explore the aesthetic elements shown in the recently broadcast Korean historical drama, “Deep-Rooted Tree”(SBS, 2011). In order to examine the new drama aesthetics more systematically, this study closely analyzes the formal elements of 1) formation of narrative (plot), 2) visual style, 3) characterization and performance, 4)writing and dialogue, and 5) innovation. Research findings show that “Deep-rooted Tree” tends to demonstrate the hybrid aesthetics employing both the conventional elements of recent Korean historical drama with the characteristics of the high-end drama drawn primarily from American and British output. Also “Deep-Rooted Tree” drama has shown the new aesthetic sensibility reflecting the creative potential of individual producer and writer. Finally this study discusses the implication of the aesthetics of ‘emotional realism’ and ‘empirical realism’ employed in this drama.
