- Abstract
- We consider a network consisting of two single-user links, one licensed to use the spectral resource (primary) and one unlicensed (secondary or cognitive). According to the cognitive radio principle, the activity of the secondary link is required not to interfere with the performance of the primary. Therefore, in this paper, it is assumed that the cognitive link accesses the channel only when primary link is idle. The cognitive system has two kinds of queue: one is for relaying primary packets and the other is for its own packets. It is allowed the cognitive node to act as a relay for the primary link. In this case, having packets relayed by the secondary can help emptying the queue of the primary, thus creating transmitting opportunities for the secondary. So we investigate the performance of buffered cognitive relay capability.
