Abstract
The purpose of this study was to provide information necessary to improve the sports performance for national gymnastics athletes and instructors by Analysis on the Trend of Floor Excercise Techniques Before and After the Revision of Men's Apparatus Gymnastics Rule that, comparative analyses were conducted on the performance details of world-class athletes who contended in 2008 Summer Olympic Games(pre-change) and 2009 World Gymnastics Championships(post-change) floor exercise final with a focus on the performance element group, level of technique, and value scores. The results of analyses suggested the followings: First, the athletes were found to have made their performance structures mainly tailored to increase the initial scores and minimize the deduction in the world championship. Second, it is crucial to minimize the factors of deduction by performing the Group I element techniques in a stable fashion. Third, the Group II element techniques are relatively difficult, but the difficulty levels of D and E were preferred which could be performed stably. Fourth, the Group III element tended to increase the initial scores through the drastic performance of techniques that require high degree of skill. Fifth, in relation to the Group IV element, the difficulty level of B was attempted 4 times in the world gymnastics championship, which had not been carried out in the summer Olympics, showing a distinct difference between the two sports events. Sixth, the initial scores were high in the world gymnastics championship compared to the summer Olympics, and the range of deduction was found to be large in terms of the performance score.
