국내ㆍ외 도로표지디자인 비교분석을 통한 국내 도로표지디자인 개선방안

Abstract

본 연구는 국내 도로표지디자인의 개선방안을 위한 논문으로서 국내 도로표지디자인을 중심으로 분석하였으며, 국내 도로표지 중에서도 방향표지 및 이정표지를 대상으로 분석하였다. 도로표지의 이론적 고찰과 국내 도로표지디자인의 현황을 분석을 통해 문제점을 알아보고 비교적 국내에 비해 도로표지에 대한 체계적인 관리가 이루어지고 있는 국가로 미국, 독일, 일본의 방향표지 및 이정표지를 대상으로 사례를 분석 하였으며, 사례 연구에 있어 주요 내용은 도로표지의 시각구성요소 중 서체, 색채, 여백에 영향을 주는 목적지 범례의 수 등을 중심으로 분석하였다. 국내 도로 표지디자인과 국외도로표지디자인 가이드라인 비교분석을 통해 국내 도로표지디자인의 개선방안을 도출 한다. 연구 방법으로는 도로표지에 관련한 단행본 및 관련기관인 건설교통부의 자료를 활용하였다. 어느 지역을 처음 방문하게 되면 가장 먼저 느껴지는 도시경관에 의해 그 지역의 이미지를 평가하게 된다. 그 지역의 구성요소 중 도로표지는 도시민들에게 그 지역 및 시설의 위치에 대한 정보를 전달하는 매개 요소이다. 또한, 주변 공공시설물과 복합적 관계 속에서 풍요로운 생활환경 조성 및 도시경관에 영향을 주기 때문에 도로이용자 뿐만 아니라 외국인 관광객들에게 그 나라에 대한 첫인상에 크나큰 영향을 미친다. 국내 도로표지디자인은 한정된 공간에 과다한 시각 구성요소가 명시되어 시각적 혼란이 초래되어 도로이용자들의 불편이 야기되고 있는 현실이다. 본 연구는 국내 도시경관 개선을 위한 연구로서 국내 도로표지 디자인의 현황을 살펴보고 국내ㆍ외 도로표지디자인을 비교분석해 봄으로써 국내 도로표지디자인의 문제점을 파악하고 개선방안을 제시하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 국내ㆍ외 도로표지디자인을 비교분석해본 결과 국내 도로표지디자인 가이드라인이 세부적으로 명시되어 있지 않다. 비효율적인 레이아웃으로 인해 가독성 문제점을 초래하여 도로이용자들의 안전한 운전과 길찾기 정보제공이 제대로 이루어 지지 못하고 있는 실정이며, 더불어 도시민들에게 보다나은 환경을 제공하여 삶의 질을 높여줄 수 있도록 도시경관과의 조화를 고려한 디자인이 되어야 한다.

This Study is a thesis for means of improvement of road sign designs in Korea and made analysis with focus on road sign designs in Korea. Particular attention was paid to analysis of directional signs and milestone among the road signs in Korea. Problems in the designs were examined through theoretical review of the road signs and analysis of current status of road sign designs in Korea, and case analysis was carried out with directional signs and milestones being used in USA, Germany and Japan where relatively more systematic management of road signs are being accomplished in comparison to Korea. In case studies, analysis was made with focus on fonts, colors and number of legends on destinations that affect the margins among the visual composition elements of the road signs. This Study aims to deduce means of improving road sign designs in Korea through comparative analysis of the guidelines for road sign designs in Korea and in overseas countries. Books relevant to road signs and data of the relevant government offices including the Ministry of Construction and Transportation were used as research method. People usually evaluate an image of a city by the first impression of urban view. Road signs, some part of a city view, are important matters for delivering information of places and facilities in a town. Because they also affect on an urban environment and daily life in a complicated relationship with surrounded public facilities, they also affect on the first impression for foreign visitors and drivers on a road. Korean road sign designs show too many factors in a limited space. They lead visual confusion and inconvenience of driving. In this study, the current status of the road sign designs in Korea will be analyzed for improvement of Korean city views. Road sign designs from other countries will also be compared with Korea`s to find out problems of Korean signs and solutions to improve those designs. As the result of comparative analysis of road sign design in Korea and overseas country, it was found that the guidelines on the road sign design in Korea were not specified in detail. Information for safe driving and finding the proper route are not being provided to the road users due to legibility issues arising from inefficient layout of the signs. Road signs must have designs that considers harmony with urban landscape in order to elevate the quality of life by providing better environment to the residents of cities.
