- Abstract
- The purpose of this study is to define the effect of 8-week exercise program on walking of elderly woman of more than 65 years old by using the exercise program to improve walking ability of elderly man. For the purpose, the exercise was applied to elderly woman of more than 65 years old for 8 weeks three times a week and 60 minutes a day. The exercise program to improve walking ability of elderly man consisted of 4 categories such as warm-up exercise, main exercise(1), main exercise (2) and cool-down exercise, which are divided into 54 items in detail. Digital camcorder(HD) was used for filming in order to collect step length, stride width and ankle angle in walking before and after exercise. Filmed image was analyzed by using Dartfish image analysis program. By using Window SPSS 17.0 program, descriptive statistics, paired sample T test and bivariate correlation were applied to collected data above. As a result, following results were drawn. First, for walking pattern, step length and ankle angle increased significantly after exercise and stride width decreased significantly after exercise. Second, there was no significant difference in correlation between step length and ankle angle before and after exercise statistically.
When considering the results above, it was found that the exercise program to improve walking ability of elderly man improved the functions such as muscle strength of lower limb and balance ability, resulting in giving positive effect to the improvement of walking ability of elderly man.
