Abstract
Acoustic emission (AE) signals were detected and analyzed in real time during the polymerization shrinkage of composite resin restoration in artificial dental ring with the class Ⅰ cavity. Most AE hit events were observed in the initial curing period of stageⅠwith high contraction rate. StageⅡindicated a calm period immediately after stageⅠ. The range of stageⅡ for the human dentin substrate was shorter than that for the PMMA but longer than that for the stainless steel. AE hit events showed a blast type signal having the amplitude of 25-45㏈ and the frequency band of 100-200㎑ and 240-400㎑. The amplitude and frequency characteristics indicated the fracture of resin or adhesive layer.
