Abstract
This paper presents a 2-D analytical model for the characteristic analysis of the double-sided axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator (AFPMSG) with coreless stator for direct drive wind energy system. The resultant no load field is computed by the superposition of the magnetic field produced by the upper and lower magnets by considering both axial and circumferential components. Armature reaction magnetic field is computed for the whole coil region by considering armature coil as current sheets. The no load voltage is computed by considering the axial components of no load magnetic field due to both lower and upper magnets. The no load voltage computed by the analytical model is compared with 3-D finite element method (FEM) and the results show good consistency between them. © 2010 IEEE.
