애니메이션 <마리이야기>에 표현된 관계이미지 분석

Abstract

일반적으로 애니메이션의 이미지는 언어학에 기반을 둔 서사구조와 그 외의 애니메이션 분석방법에서 종속적이거나 부차적인 것으로 기능하는 것으로 간주되어 왔다. 이 때 이미지의 풍부한 의미작용은 하나 혹은 다수의 외부적인 구조에 맞도록 순화되거나 배제되는 경향이 있다. 본 논문은 이러한 구조주의적이고 언어학적인 애니메이션 분석 방법과는 다른 관점에서 이미지가 애니메이션에서 사유를 표현하고 재창조하는 핵심적인 요소라는 것을 입증하고자 한다. 감독이 나타내고자 하는 주제는 이미지를 매개로 전달되고 서사 역시 이미지와 이미지로부터 파생되는 내적 관계들로부터 구성된다. 본 논문에서는 들뢰즈의 영화기호학을 검토하고 운동-이미지 기호 체계를 이성강 감독의 장편 애니메이션인 <마리이야기>를 분석하는 데 적용하였다. 1단계에서는 전체 작품을 23개의 시퀀스로 구분하고 각 시퀀스를 행동-이미지에 따라 구분하였다. 전체 플롯이 주인공의 과거 기억에 대한 회상이 액자구조로 포함된 A-S(S-A-S')-A'의 구조를 갖게 됨을 분석하였다. 2단계에서는 들뢰즈의 운동-이미지 기호체계 중 <마리이야기>에 표현된 지각, 감정, 행동, 관계-이미지의 기호들을 찾고 간략하게 정리하였다. 3단계에서는 지각, 행동, 감정-이미지를 종합하여 의미를 부여하는 관계-이미지를 분석하였다. 그 결과 <마리이야기>는 마리구슬이라는 상징기호를 축으로 하는 관계-이미지가 전체 작품을 종합하고 각각의 이미지에 의미를 부여함으로서 작품의 주제를 나타내고 있음을 입증하였다.

Animation images in general, are not of prime importance but regarded as independent or secondary in analyses based on narrative structure and other animation analyses. Then, images in inconformity with the given external structures seem to be purified or excluded. In this paper, differently from structural linguistic analyses, we try to demonstrate that animation images paly a critical role in expressing and recreating thoughts of animation. The theme of animation which its director tries to represent is delivered through images and its narrative is also constructed from images and their internal relations. In this paper, Deleuze's film semiotics, one of the image-based analyses, is applied to analyzing "My Beautiful Girl, Mari", the first long animation of Sung Gang Lee's. In the first step, we divide the animation into the 23 sequences and classify them according to action-image. It is analyzed that the structure of the plot of is A-S(S-A-S')-A', including the main character's memory in frame S-A-S'. In the second step, all the movement-images such as perception, action, affection, relation-image shown in are analyzed. Finally, we analyze relation-images of synthesizing and signifying perception, action, and affection-images. From the analysis, it is demonstrated that the ‘pearl’ as a symbol of one sign of relation-images, plays a role of synthesizing the animation and signifying all the movement-images and expresses the main theme of the animation.
