Abstract
This study aims to analyze any difference in local residents' sports involvements and their cognition about the construction of a domed stadium depending on their demographic characteristics, and to clarify the correlation with the expectancy cognition of local residents by clustering the levels of sports involvement. For the purpose, the author selected the local residents in Danwon-gu and Sangrok-gu, Ansan, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea as the population of this study, and performed cluster analysis, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, and χ2 test intended to test the independence between one-way ANOVA and crosstabulation analysis on the 384 answered questionnaires, which were the final data collected by means of convenience sampling, using SPSS Win12.0 program. The conclusions drawn from the results of this study are summarized as follows: First, the levels of sports involvement of local residents according to their demographic characteristics were generally higher in men than in women; higher in better-educated group than in less-educated group;and higher in high-income group than in low-income group. Second, regarding the local residents' expectancy cognition about constructing a domed stadium depending on their demographic characteristics, there were statistically significant intergroup differences in citizenship depending upon residential areas; in image improvement and environmental improvement depending upon the period of residence; and also in citizenship depending on occupations. Finally, with regard to their expectancy cognition about construction of a domed stadium depending on their sports involvements, there were statistically significant intergroup differences in all of image improvement, economic growth, citizenship, environmental improvement and sports development.
