영화 타이틀 디자인의 몽타주 기법 비교 연구

Abstract

본고에서는 카일쿠퍼와 스테판 프랑크푸르트의 작품 세계 형성에 근원적 역할을 담당했던 몽타주 이론을 통해서 몽타주 이론이 어떠한 형식과 의미로서 그들의 작품에 영향을 주었는가, 그리고 이를 통해 그들의 작품들에서 볼 수 있는 특성들을 구체적으로 분석한다.카일 쿠퍼는 <세븐 Seven>의 오프닝 타이틀 시퀀스를 스테판 프랑크푸르트의 <앵무새 죽이기 To Kill A Mockingbird.>의 오프닝 타이틀 시퀀스에 바치는 오마주라 밝히고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이 두 작품의 비교 분석을 통해 몽타주의 차이점과 공통점을 논증하고, 연결몽타주 이론과 충돌몽타주 이론이 <앵무새 죽이기>와 <세븐>의 오프닝타이틀 시퀀스에 적용되었을 때 어떠한 시각적 효과를 갖게 되는지를 분석하였다.영화 타이틀의 궁극적인 목적은 본 영화의 의미전달이라는 역할에 있을 뿐 아니라, 여타의 모든 예술 작품들이 그러하듯이 뚜렷한 극적 구성이 있다 할지라도 시각적으로 강한 효과를 주지 못한다면 관객에게 그 주제를 전달하기 힘들 것이다. 구성 요소들 간의 시간적 공간적 배열에 따라 타이틀이 주는 시각적 즐거움과 함께 효과적인 의미전달이 가능해지는 까닭에 본고에서는 이들 작품을 내러티브적 차원과 시각적 차원에서 분석하였다.영화 타이틀 디자인의 발전적인 전망과 질서 있는 연구에 대해 기여할 수 있는 방법적인 토대를 마련하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다.

This study seeks to identify the montage theories that have fundamentally affected Kyle Cooper"s and Stephen Frankfurt"s work and provide glimpse into in what manner and form those montage theories have influenced their designs. The ultimate objective of a title is to deliver the theme of the movie it is decorating. As in cases of all other artistic work, a movie can not deliver it theme to its audience of it lacks strong visual impacts, even if it has a strong plot and climax. in its time and spatial arrangements of movie components, a title conveys not only a visual please, but also the meaning and overall theme of movie quite effectively. This is the principal reason that this study focused in analyzing Kyle Cooper"s and Stephen Frankfurt"s work from both the narrative and visual perspective. In doing so, this Study seeks to accomplish its principal objective : that is, contributing to development of systematic and progressive studi es on film opening title sequence
