Abstract
Chang Kyung-Hee & Kwon, Woo-Jin & Kim, Soon-Ja & Kim, Jung-Sun & Kim, Tae-Kyung & Lee, Phil-Young & Jeon, Eun-Jin. 2006. A Study on the Requirements for Evaluation of Speaking Competence Using Questionnaire Survey. Speaking competence is one of key elements of communication in language, but speaking activities and speaking performance evaluations of native speakers of Korean have not been carried out properly thus far. In this study, we investigated public demands for speaking competence evaluation using questionnaire Survey. For data analysis, frequency, mean, chi-square test, t-test and Spearman's correlation analysis were used. This study shows that the methods of assessment such as written exam which have generally been adopted in the existing test could not meet the requirements of applicants and that logicality, intelligibility and interaction be regarded as the most important points of all the factors constituting speaking competence. This study concludes that evaluation instruments for speaking competence with validity and practicality can be designed by taking the public requirements into account.
