Abstract
The performance of the optical intensity modulator based on the concept of electrically tunable reflection grating is examined theoretically when the device is realized by using an electro-optic (EO) polymer waveguide. Various combinations of device parameters, e.g. grating coupling coefficient, propagation loss, waveguide length, are considered to find the highly efficient optical modulator with low V . It is shown that the propagation loss of the EO polymer waveguide is currently the biggest obstacle to overcome to achieve an optical modulator with higher efficiency. Consideration is also given to the bandwidth and RF gain.
전기광학 폴리머 도파관을 이용하여 전기적으로 조절 가능한 반사 에돌이발에 바탕한 광변조기를 만들었을때의 성능을 이론적으로 연구하였다. 낮은 V를 갖는 고효율 광변조기를 찾기 위해 에돌이발 결합계수, 전파손실, 도파관의 길이 등 여러가지 소자 변수들을 변화시켜 보았다. 고효율 광변조기를 만들기 위해서 극복해야할 가장 큰 장벽은 연해 전기광학 폴리머 도파관의 전파손실임을 보였다. 또한 대역푝과 RF이득도 고려하였다
