- Abstract
- This study is to understand establishment of the subjective, Kim Hyeon, as a critic from a figure of other person internalized in the initial criticism of Kim Hyeon. Kim Hyeon achieved the establishment of a critical subjective by othering the mainstream critics in 1950's actively before the critics of the 1960's generation. A close examination of Kim Hyeon's initial criticism shows that la trace of criticism on 1950's literature such as Lee Eo-ryeong, which Kim Hyeon intended to exclude beyond a boundary, is found with an internalized form.
A sense of problem and conception raised by Kim Hyeon to differentiate 1950's literature from 1960's literature and establish new awareness of literature emergence from mental shamanism, defeatism and closed nationalism, historical obligations of new generation were already raised by Lee Eo-ryeong in the 1950's. And, there is a unique connection between Lee Eo-ryeong and Kim Hyeon as an intermediate of 'Myth of Narcissus' and 'I Sang'. In addition, 'a prisoner' as a 'a person confined in a space' which implies Lee Eo-ryeong's critical recognition also forms and expresses association link containing the same meaning in Kim Hyeon's critique. Moreover, both critics show a similarity in discussion composition style such as introduction of myths, fable, allegory and metaphors as well as a rhetorical and sentimental style reflecting internal feelings.
Comparing Lee Eo-ryeong's and Kim Hyeon's critique, it is revealed that Lee Eo-ryeong's sense of problem was reorganized by Kim Hyeon in a
very delicate, logical and refined style: multiple problems raised by Lee Eo-ryeong were also found in Kim Hyeon's critique and similarity of terms or concept were repeated. Such unity is not a mere accident. It seems that Kim Hyeon was affected by Lee Eo-ryeong's critique and it was established in the depths of Kim Hyeon's consciousness. For Kim Hyeon in the initial stage, Lee Eo-ryeong was a definite entity and role-model to realize Kim Hyeon's desire as a critic as well as a firsthand other relating to forming his desire toward self-identification and subjective.
However, Kim Hyeon separates Lee Eo-ryeong of other in his inside into an irrevocable and heterogeneous other with intellectual mature and accumulation of capacity. It is realized into differentiation between 1960's and 1950's literature with respect to generation and a sense of confrontation against Lee Eo ryeong's critique from a personal viewpoint. The differentiation and sense of confrontation are considered as consciousness and awareness of 'old things' and 'new things', 'identification' and 'othering'. Accordingly, Kim Hyeon has established his critical subjective. Then, Kim Hyeon's criticism has developed into a new style, which resulted in most of his critical achievements.
Establishment of the subjective in Kim Hyeon's criticism shows that 1950's literature especially, the existence of Lee Eo-ryeong was a requisite to develop Kim Hyeon's critique since late 1960's. Therefore, it is considered that 1960's criticism started from 1950's criticism or Kim Hyeon's critique was not far from Lee Eo-Lyeong's critique in a narrow sense. Both criticisms were a dialectic procedure of the principal and other.
