Abstract
This paper presents the operating characteristic analysis of a permanent magnet (PM)-type magnetic circuit breaker using the two-dimensional finite-element magnetic field solution, taking into account nonlinearity of the material and the eddy current. The effect of the eddy current on the dynamic characteristic of the breaker is analyzed from the finite-element analysis. A new modified model to decrease the eddy current is proposed. The characteristics of the two models are compared.
